The partners of Sim & McBurney are pleased to announce that Ian Goodman has joined its patent agency group. Mr. Goodman is a lawyer and patent agent with over 7 years of intellectual property experience. He has extensive experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and opinion work in the areas of biotechnology, medical devices and chemical engineering.

Mr. Goodman received his B.Sc. Biology (Cell Biology and Genetics) from the University of British Columbia and is a graduate of the joint Canadian-American law program at the University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy. He is a Registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States and a Registered Trademark Agent in Canada. Mr. Goodman is a recipient of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s Education Foundation Prize for achieving the highest mark on the Canadian Trademark Agent Examination.




After a very brief retirement from the firm, Michael Stewart has accepted a position as senior consultant at Sim & McBurney. In this role, Mr. Stewart will work directly with our clients and will provide advice, direction and mentorship to our patent agents. Mr. Stewart has been a registered Patent Agent in the United States and Canada since 1967 and is a Fellow of the Patent and Trademark Institute of Canada.

Mr. Stewart will continue to provide patent and licensing advice and services to our clients in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, therapeutics, biology, pharmacology, immunology, diagnostics, medical procedures and devices, chemical and mechanical process systems, pulp and paper chemistry and equipment, radiochemistry, food chemistry and polymer chemistry.
