Tomas Karger

Tomas is a Registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States, and an associate at Sim & McBurney. He is engaged in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications, dealing primarily with technologies in the electrical, computer, software, and mechanical fields.

Tomas frequently works with small independent inventors helping them apply for and secure patent protection. He has worked with his clients to conduct patent audits at client sites comparing client technologies with their patent holdings. In addition, Tomas has experience teaching an introductory intellectual property course to Ryerson business students.

Tomas holds degrees in Mathematics and Engineering from Queen’s University, and in Intellectual Property Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre. During his final thesis project at Queen’s, he developed an alternate constellation mapping scheme for non-uniform compressed multimedia data.

Prior to joining Sim & McBurney, Tomas gained experience in nuclear power engineering while working both on the construction site and in the design office for one of Canada’s largest engineering consulting companies.

Tomas is fluent in German. He enjoys fun time with his wife, four children, and Bernese Mountain dog. Tomas is also an avid runner.
