Kelly J. Stewart

Kelly is a Registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States, and an associate at Sim & McBurney. He specializes in patent drafting, filing, and prosecution, primarily with technologies in the electrical, computer, software, mechanical and oil and gas fields. Kelly also helps his clients with registering industrial designs.

Kelly works with his clients to develop a patent filing strategy that suits their needs and budget. His ability to quickly understand new technologies allows him to prepare detailed and creative patent applications in an effort to maximize patent protection for his clients. Kelly enjoys the diversity of working with a variety of clients, from one-person start-up companies to large corporations.

Kelly currently sits on the Executive Committee for the Toronto Intellectual Property Group. He has lectured at Ryerson University on the topic of patents, and has been published in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review (CIPR) and World Trade-mark Review (WTR).

Prior to joining Sim & McBurney, Kelly gained engineering experience in the power engineering industry and completed a 16-month internship with one of the world’s top engineering companies.

Outside of the office, Kelly enjoys golfing, as well as coaching and playing hockey.
