Copyright registration

"Got an idea?"

Registration of copyright in Canada is not essential since Canadian law provides that an author automatically has copyright in most circumstances, as previously discussed. However, some people prefer to register copyright as registration serves as legal notice that copyright exists and who owns it. An application for registration involves the filing of a simple form. The work itself is not filed, nor is it to be described other than by simple reference to its title and type of work. It is recommended, therefore, that a notice, as previously discussed, be placed on all copies of the work, and that the original be preserved and dated so as to give proof as to what it is and when it was first prepared.
